TCJFF Opening Night Screening: Midas Man + The Shabby Road Quintet

October 23 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

2025 OPENING NIGHT FILM!
Kick off the festival in true ’60s style at the iconic Riverview Theater! Walk the red carpet, snap a photo at our groovy selfie station, and soak up the sounds of Minneapolis’ favorite Beatles cover band, The Shabby Road Quintet, featuring Adam Levy, John Fields, Ken Chastain, Joe Carey, and John Eller. These central players from the 12-piece Shabby Road Orchestra will take the stage for a 30-minute live opening set of Beatles classics, capturing the energy of the band’s final days with Brian Epstein and setting the mood for the night. ’60s attire encouraged—channel your inner Beatlemania and join the party!

Midas Man is an empathetic and deeply human biopic about Brian Epstein, the Jewish and queer outsider who discovered the Beatles at Liverpool’s Cavern Club and, as their legendary manager, came to be known as “the fifth Beatle.” The film stars a profoundly moving Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen’s Gambit) as Epstein, charting his visionary rise, his struggles with loneliness and prejudice, and his tragic death at just 32. Equal parts heartbreaking and inspiring, Midas Man sheds compassionate light on the man whose vision helped change the course of popular culture forever. The outstanding supporting cast includes Jonah Lees as John Lennon, Blake Richardson as Paul McCartney, Emily Watson and Eddie Marsan as Epstein’s parents, and Jay Leno as Ed Sullivan.
