Shlemut: Jewish Practices for Resilience and Wellbeing
November 13 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Wednesdays, November 13 – December 18, 2024
Over five sessions, we will explore some of Judaism’s best teachings (texts) and tools (practices) for resilience during ordinary and challenging times. Shlemut shares its Hebrew root with shalom (peace) and refers to wholeness, a holistic perspective on wellbeing. This series is a sampler for a range of modalities, with mindfulness (conscious awareness) as the throughline.
This is for you if:
- You have practiced Judaism for much or all of your life and would like a deeper soul connection with Jewish prayer and rituals.
- You find spiritual nourishment outside of Judaism in meditation, yoga, hikes in nature, and other practices, and would like to be find that kind of nourishment with Judaism
- You are looking for ideas, practices, and connections to support your wellbeing during ordinary or challenging times
Together, we will explore:
- Hasidic teachings on mindfulness / Godfulness
- How do we talk to God? Why talk to God? What if you don’t believe in God?
- Cultivating spiritual qualities (middot) for wellbeing
- Deep inspiration in our traditional prayers
There will be essays to read between classes, to provide frameworks for our conversation and practice.
