Fighting back against Parkinson’s
The Minnesota JCC is excited to offer Rock Steady Boxing classes, an affiliate program of Rock Steady Boxing Inc., which enables individuals with Parkinson’s to fight back through non-contact boxing-style fitness programs that are designed to improve their quality of life.
Recent studies suggest that intense exercise programs, and boxing specifically, may actually work to delay the progression of symptoms. Rock Steady Boxing provides benefits by inspiring maximum effort, speed, strength, balance and flexibility, moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout. Rock Steady Boxing classes may benefit anyone at any stage of Parkinson’s helping to lessen symptoms and that can lead to a healthier, happier life.
Due to room size and safety consideration, class enrollment is limited.
Meet The Coach
Sandy Harris
Sandy Harris is a southern transplant to Minnesota and absolutely loves it here. She brings with her a love of live theater and helping people fight for their health. Traveling in a Minnie Winnie, she spent nearly ten years on short term assignments in nursing homes, hospitals, and outpatient clinics as a Physical Therapist Assistant. She fell in love with the vibrancy of the Rock Steady program, received extensive training to become a certified RSB coach, and cannot wait to fight Parkinson’s alongside the boxers at the JCC.

What Is A Class Like?
Classes, taught by Certified Rock Steady Boxing Coaches, include an exercise program that attacks Parkinson’s at its vulnerable neurological points.
While focusing on overall fitness, strength training, reaction time and balance, workouts include: ring work, focus mitts, heavy bags, speed bags, double-ended bags, jump rope, core work, calisthenics and circuit weight training.
No boxing experience is necessary, and people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease of all ages and levels are invited to participate.
COST: $20 • $15 MEMBER VALUE PRICE
Rock Steady Boxing participants are required to complete an assessment prior to participating in the program. The assessment is a tool to gain subjective and objective information about the new boxer. Assessments are used to track changes to the participant’s score over a 6 to 12-month interval.
BOXER STORIES
“When I first joined Rock Steady Boxing, I thought it was just about exercise. What I found was so much more — strength, confidence, and a community that fights alongside me every step of the way. The best part is being surrounded by people who truly understand what I’m going through.”
Elaine K.
“Before Rock Steady Boxing, I felt like Parkinson’s was slowly taking things away from me, especially my balance.. Since joining, I’ve discovered just how much fight I still have in me. Every class pushes me to do more than I thought I could, and I leave feeling stronger not just physically, but mentally too.”
