UNIT HEAD (Camp Butwin)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
You are a role model for staff and campers and as such, responsible for conducting yourself in a professional manner, respecting confidentiality, and the dignity of everyone. Mandatory attendance at the open house, all family nights and all pre-camp and in-camp meetings.

  • Assist in developing the daily schedule.
  • Parent communication: writing village letter weekly for camp newsletter, write letters to parents, keeping them informed of camper’s progress in the group.
  • Share with the administrative staff office tasks which include cleaning the office, answering the phone, listening, and clearing voice mail, copying, faxing and paperwork.
  • Be at a designated central pick-up and drop-off bus site the first few days of each session and again as needed to assist with oversight of busing.
  • Responsible to continuously evaluate your village to provide the best possible experience.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of Orientation Week.
  • Assist and complete other administrative tasks as requested by the Camp Director.

 

UNIT HEAD (Camp Olami)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
You are a role model for staff and campers and as such, responsible for conducting yourself in a professional manner, respecting confidentiality and the dignity of everyone. Mandatory attendance at the family picnic, staff training, and all camp meetings.

  • Parent communication: provide information that will go out to families of campers in your program (i.e., field trips, any special camp programming, newsletter, etc.)
  • Assist in planning and implementation of Orientation Week.
  • Assist and complete other administrative tasks as requested by the Camp Director.

 

CAMP COUNSELOR

The counselor will be responsible for the health and welfare of everyone in his/her group.  It is through the counselor that the camper relates to other, larger aspects of the camping program.  Therefore, the position of counselor is a very important one in camp.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Helps the group to plan and carry out all its activities.
  • Ensures that all campers are involved, safe and having a positive experience.
  • Responsible for providing a welcoming and an overall positive group environment.
  • Attends and contributes to pre-camp training sessions, regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions once camp is in session.
  • Participates in family events and the open house. If assigned, assumes share of responsibility for bus duty.
  • Contributes to the planning and direction of village programs and cleanest village.
  • Responsible for helping plan and implement programs during groups free time.
  • In applicable programs helps the group carry out overnights, undernights and cookouts.
  • Responsible for being a role model to the campers and CITs. Expected to be in the pool with your campers. Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

LIFEGUARD

General Duties

  • The supervision and security of the pool area following the policies and procedures of the American Red Cross in maintaining a safe and healthy pool and program.
  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, implementing Aquatics programming for camp, including specialty camps, village programming, “water days”, as well as periodic after camp and weekend pool activities.
  • The maintenance of the pools, pool logs, pool equipment, and light maintenance of locker room and deck area.
  • Be identifiable as a Camp Lifeguard by being in uniform and in your work area.
  • Supervising camp staff at the pool area.<
  • Help Aquatics Director present a pre-camp orientation of the pool area.
  • Responsible for attending all staff meetings, open house, camp wide programs, and parent events as designated by the Camp Director.
  • Attend weekly individual supervisory meetings with the Aquatics Director.
  • In collaboration with specialists, aquatics, and administrative staff, help implement weekly all-camp programming based on the summer theme.
  • Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

HORSE SPECIALIST

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • The development of horse programming for Camp Butwin, its specialty camps and village programming.
  • The maintenance of horses and riding equipment.  Keeping inventory of equipment and order of area.
  • Responsible to see that all campers and staff adhere to safety standards, including wearing helmets and proper clothing when riding.
  • Purchasing necessary supplies within authorized budget limit and recommending supplies for the following years.
  • Work with CIT’s, Counselors and other staff in developing horse projects, including those originating outside of the horse area or program period.
  • Outlining area programs for the week, specifying activities for each age group and skills to be taught at their developmental level.  Responsible for recording planning on weekly lesson plan sheets.
  • Supervising camp staff in the horse area. Communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Preparing a pre-camp orientation of the horse area for staff.
  • Collaborating with the caretakers & maintenance in the feeding, watering, and caring for the horses and other livestock in the horse area as specified.
  • Responsible for clean-up of horse area, pasture, and all areas throughout camp that horses have been.
    Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

BOATING SPECIALIST

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Waterfront/lifeguard certification required

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • Development of boating programs for Camp Butwin, its specialty camps and village programming; including skill building and structural activities.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all boating equipment, keeping inventory of equipment and order of area, and purchasing necessary supplies within authorized budgetary limits.
  • Work with Program Director, Counselors, Specialists, and other Aquatics staff in the promotion and development of boating projects, including those originating outside of boating area or program period.
  • Supervising camp staff in boat area
  • Communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE DIRECTOR

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • The development of the outdoor adventure program (i.e. challenge course, group initiative course, climbing tower, and other experiential education) for Camp Butwin, its specialty camps and village programming.
  • The maintenance of the outdoor adventure area equipment.  Responsible for keeping inventory of equipment and order of area.  Responsible for purchasing necessary supplies within authorized budget limits.
  • Work with CITs, Counselors, and other staff in developing challenge and group initiative projects, including those originating in the climbing tower, course areas or other initiatives.
  • Attending pre-camp certification training for all areas of Outdoor adventure
  • Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

DRAMA SPECIALIST

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • The development of Drama programming for Camp Butwin, its small groups and village programming.
  • The maintenance of Drama area and equipment. Keeping inventory of equipment and order of area.
  • Purchasing necessary supplies within authorized budget limit and recommending supplies for the following years.
  • Work with CITs, Counselors, and other staff in developing Drama programming. The programs can combine drama, music, movement, and other creative activities.
  • Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

NATURE SPECIALIST

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • The development of wilderness programming for Camp Butwin, its specialty camps and village programming.
  • The maintenance of wilderness area and equipment.  Keeping inventory of equipment and order of area.
  • Purchasing necessary supplies within authorized budget limit and recommending supplies for the following years.
  • Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

SPORTS Specialist

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
  • The development of sports programming for Camp Butwin, its specialty camps and village programming.
  • The maintenance of the sport field and equipment.
  • Keeping inventory of equipment and order of area. Purchasing necessary supplies within authorized budget limit and recommending supplies for the following years.
  • Act as the resource person for the sports area in camp. Create checkout and return system for sports equipment.
  • Other tasks assigned by the camp leaders.

 

CAMPER ADVOCATE

A Camper Advocate is a camp staff member who provides inclusive support, accommodation, and modifications to a specific camper or group of campers to facilitate a meaningful, positive, and inclusive camp experience for all. The Camper Advocate seeks to integrate a child/teen with a disability into camp programs to the maximum extent possible, ensuring a positive camper experience at Camp Olami (St. Louis Park) or Camp.

Butwin (Eagan). Planning and foresight are required of the advocate, especially when the activities/programming may need to be adapted to ensure child/teen participation.

  • Modeling best inclusive practices for both staff and campers to promote an inclusive and accepting environment
  • Applicants should have previous experience working with children.
