Twin Cities Jewish Film Festival FREE MATINEE: Summer Stock and the Hollywood Musical

Come join Twin Cities natives David Fantle & Tom Johnson as they introduce their new book, C’mon, Get Happy: The Making of Summer Stock prior to a screening of the film. Summer Stock is a 1950 MGM musical starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. To Jane Falbury’s New England farm comes a troupe of actors to put up a show, invited by Jane’s sister. At first reluctant she has them do farm chores in exchange for food. Her reluctance becomes attraction when she falls in love with the director, Joe, who happens to be her sister’s fiancé.
Their talk will provide insights into the film including its producer Joe Pasternak, known for “happy ending” films, who lost about 40 family and friends in the Holocaust.
A book signing with refreshments will follow the screening.
