Author Talk! After Effects: Andrea Gilats in Conversation with Rabbi Morris Allen

June 2, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Minnesota JCC is pleased to present Andrea Gilats, St. Paul author of After Effects: A Memoir of Complicated Grief, and honored guest Morris Allen, Rabbi Emeritus of Beth Jacob Synagogue, to discuss her intensely moving and revelatory memoir of enduring and emerging from exceptional grief.

Gilats suffered from a condition called prolonged grief disorder for almost two decades after her husband died of cancer in 1998 at the age of 52. Now, finally, she shares true stories of her long, troubled journey from profound grief to a life of hope.

Rabbi Allen has long reflected on the stunning role that Jewish tradition has played in addressing prolonged grief. How do our losses affect our faith journeys? Can traditional Jewish mourning and remembrance practices help us heal? Together, they will talk candidly about keeping faith after loss, however we define that.

After the conversation, Andrea’s memoir, After Effects, will be available for purchase from independent St. Paul bookseller, SubText Books. Andrea will sign books for all who wish.
