SUMMARY:"The Catskills" Film Screening + Ice Cream Social
DESCRIPTION:Close out the summer in style!  \nStep back in time and savor a sweet slice of Jewish-American history as we close out the summer with the Minnesota Premiere of The Catskills\, a humorous and nostalgic documentary directed by Lex Gillespie (The Mamboniks). Brimming with vintage home movies\, postcards\, photos\, and menus\, this delightful film captures the rise and fall of the legendary Catskills resorts. From the humble bungalows of immigrant families to the glitzy stages that launched comedy legends—and gave refuge to blacklisted artists—The Catskills is a heartfelt tribute to a singular time and place in Jewish cultural life. If you loved Dirty Dancing\, you’ll love the real stories behind it. 2024 I USA I English I 85 mins \nWATCH THE TRAILER \nStick around after the screening for a festive outdoor ice cream social—a sweet end to a nostalgic summer evening. SUMMARY:Healing By Design In-Gallery Guided Weaving Experience: ROOTS
DESCRIPTION:Join local artist Lillie Benowitz with Sustain Studio for a creative journey rooted in rest\, resilience\, and the power of communal reflection. \nAt the heart of this project is a participatory art installation designed by Lillie Benowitz\, inviting you to weave your own experience into a growing collective piece. Using fabric\, thread\, and yarn—each color tied to a different emotion or experience—you’ll reflect\, choose your colors\, and add them to the communal weaving. Together\, these workshops and the evolving artwork create a space to metabolize what it means to be in Jewish community and in the world in this moment—holding both roots and resilience. \nFREE – No Registration Needed \n  \n  \n \nAbout the Artist\nLillie founded Sustain Studio\, a creative facilitation and intentional convening hub dedicated to tending ways of being together that sustain life. Lillie brings her expertise in experience design\, culture change\, and spiritual nourishment to build offerings for individuals\, groups\, and organizations. She is a practicing artist and cares deeply about how Jewish wisdom can animate our time. Lillie has worked for social healing and spirituality organizations\, including The On Being Project and At The Well. They are a Jewish Studio Project Facilitator and Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory®. They are based on Dakota Land in Minneapolis\, MN. \n  \n  \n \nAccompanying Film Screening:\nTattooed4Life Film will be screening simultaneously at 1\, 1:30 & 2 pm. \nLiraz\, a survivor of the Nova Music Festival massacre\, wields her tattoo needle as a weapon against pain. Her mission is profound: to immortalize the 364 souls who perished on that fateful day. Through fractal tattoos\, she weaves their stories—tales of loss\, fear\, faith\, love\, and hope—into the very fabric of the skin. Each inked line becomes a thread of healing\, stitching together the wounds left by the tragedy that unfolded on October 7th. In the film\, we witness the transformative power of art\, as Liraz’s creations serve as both memorials and symbols of resilience. Her inked tapestry becomes a testament to the indomitable human spirit\, seeking solace and redemption through creativity. (Israel | Short Documentary | 2024 | Director/Producer: Kineret Hay-Gillor)
