Coming Together for Rice & Larpenteur: How Ramsey County’s 3 largest cities formed a partnership to invest in a challenged border community.
Rice & Larpenteur is a neighborhood hub where the cities of Roseville, Maplewood, and Saint Paul meet-up at the intersection of the two county roads.
At the heart of our neighborhood is a bustling commercial node full of retail and service businesses. Tucked right behind and in between our businesses are homes of all types and sizes. Indeed, we are a growing community, home to many young families who appreciate our mix of affordable housing options, local parks (like Lake McCarrons Regional Park!), walkability to shops and restaurants, churches and schools, and easy access to employment centers in surrounding communities.
Kim O’Brien is the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and leads the WorkStream professional services division of the St Paul Area Chamber. Within her role Kim also serves as the Executive Director of the Rice and Larpenteur Alliance, in addition to supporting other nonprofit and public clients. Prior to the Chamber, Kim served as Legislative Aide to St. Paul City Council President Amy Brendmoen for 7 years, the Community Relations Manager at a St. Paul-based nonprofit family services organization, and as an Account Executive for two advertising agencies. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of MN, and Bachelor’s Degrees in Communications and Sociology from the University of Colorado. She currently serves as a Trustee for the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library. Kim lives in the Battle Creek neighborhood of St. Paul with her husband and two sons who all enjoy exploring local, state, and national parks.
